WHY YOUTH SPORTS MATTER
Youth sports can strengthen the mind, the classroom, the body, and the way young people learn to lead. Access to those benefits should never depend on what a family can afford.
Federal youth-sports guidance connects participation with confidence and self-esteem, while regular physical activity can reduce the risk of depression.
U.S. HHS source ↗CDC data show an association between stronger grades and sports participation: 66% of students earning mostly A's played on a team, compared with 42% earning mostly D's or F's.
CDC source ↗The National Youth Sports Strategy highlights teamwork, leadership, relationship building, goal setting, time management, and work ethic as benefits of sports participation.
National strategy ↗Physical activity supports cognition, bone health, fitness, and heart health. Youth sports offer one important way for kids to reach the recommended 60 minutes of daily activity.
